The project consists of two monitors, achieving the effect of a pair of eyes. It displays carefully edited sequences of pre-recorded and synchronized eye movements. Our intention was to enhance the sense of uncanny surveillance. Due to the constant flow of people in front of the installation, someone will always feel like “the eyes” are directed exactly at them. The pre-recorded sequences provide a sense of stability and integrity of the eyes.

The project is inspired by the installation of so-called “safety cameras” in all NSB trains during the period of the exhibition. This paradigm shift, from being observed to being protected, resonates to a great extent with our approach. The eyes interact with the visitors on their own terms.
